Almighty Father, in these dark times when evil is rampant throughout the world, you have called us, chosen us, and appointed us to rise in defense of your work. We are your missionary families, commissioned to defend faith, family and life.
Lord Jesus, you are the Rock upon which our families, our community and our Church are founded. With you as cornerstone, help us to be built as living stones into a spiritual house, holy and acceptable. Build this house to withstand the floods and winds of adversity that assault us each day.
Holy Spirit, send us forth as your holy warriors, with clarity of vision and zeal for mission. Empower us in the proclamation of the gospel of salvation in Jesus, and help us in defending our Church against the forces that seek to weaken her.
Mama Mary, teach us the way of kindness and mercy, unite us as your beloved children, and keep us in your loving embrace always.
Amen.Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary October 7, 2019 “See, I am doing something new! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19) It has been 38 years of our life and mission. In that time, the vision that God gave us has continued to evolve. In 1981 we saw the establishment of Couples for Christ (CFC). In 1993 we saw its re-founding. In 2007 we saw its restoration, now as CFC-FFL. In 2011 God gifted us with the Live Christ, Share Christ (LCSC) mission, as our participation in the Church’s work of New Evangelization.
We, CFC-FFL, have changed our name to Missionary Families of Christ (MFC), effective October 7, 2019. For a full explanation of this name change, please look to the announcement of the Servant General entitled “A Time of Transition.” But essentially there are 7 basic reasons:
(1) The new name is reflective of our actual identity, of who we are and what we do.
(2) For unity and uniformity throughout the world, considering our community currently has over 10 different names in different countries.
We read in today’s psalm: “They remembered that God was their rock, God Most High, their redeemer.” (Ps 78:35).
The Israelites, wearied by their journey through the wilderness, “complained against God and Moses” (Nm 21:5). They were much like God’s people today, forgetting about what God had done for them, especially in being granted salvation from captivity, then in Egypt, now from the evil one.
At Mass, prior to receiving the Eucharist, we pray, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” These words basically are lifted from the words of the centurion whose slave Jesus healed. There is much we can learn from this episode.
When the centurion spoke as such, Jesus was amazed and said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” (v.9b). Now Israel was the people God had formed as His own. But they were unfaithful many times to their covenant, and would even reject the very Messiah that they were expecting. It is so much like the people of God today.
